Three Things to Keep in Mind During a Gastroscopy - Do You Know Them All?

Nowadays, digestive diseases such as stomach problems have become one of the most common diseases. Many people will go to the hospital for examination if they feel uncomfortable with their intestines and stomach. During the examination, gastroscopy is inevitable. However, the discomfort caused by conventional gastroscopy makes many people scared. Now, a painless endoscope gastroscope has emerged. So, what is the difference between painless gastroscopy and conventional gastroscopy?

1. Differences between painless gastroscopy and conventional gastroscopy

1) Inspection process:

Conventional gastroscopy requires patients to have some equipment inserted into their stomach. Although anesthesia is used, there will still be a strong foreign body sensation and nausea and vomiting during swallowing, which many patients cannot bear. The painless gastroscopy injects intravenous anesthetics before the examination, and patients undergo the examination under anesthesia. As long as they sleep for a while, the examination can be completed without pain, discomfort, or psychological pressure.

2) Inspection costs:

The advantage of conventional gastroscopy is that it is relatively cheap, so the cost of ordinary gastroscopy is relatively low. However, the price of painless gastroscopy is much higher than that of conventional gastroscopy, and some patients cannot undergo painless gastroscopy. After the examination, they still need to be observed for several hours to avoid some complications. Therefore, there is still a big difference between conventional gastroscopy and painless gastroscopy, and many things need to be noted before undergoing gastroscopy.

2. Precautions for gastroscopy examination

1) Fasting:

Fasting is required before gastroscopy examination. Conventional gastroscopy requires fasting for more than 6 hours, and the fasting time for painless gastroscopy needs to be extended because anesthesia is required, which is at least 7 hours of fasting.

2) No smoking:

When undergoing a gastroscopy examination, smoking should be prohibited one day in advance to avoid coughing or excessive gastric acid secretion that may affect the gastroscopy examination.

3) Maintain health:

If fever, cough, or runny nose is found before the examination, the gastroscopy examination should be postponed. Before the examination, medical history and drug allergy history should be told to the doctor to prevent accidents during the examination.

The above are things to note before undergoing gastroscopy examination. Especially fasting, it is necessary to maintain an empty stomach state before gastroscopy examination. Also, remember to stop smoking one or two days in advance to avoid cough symptoms during gastroscopy examination. Smoking can easily cause discomfort in the lungs, which may cause coughing, and smoking may also cause excessive gastric acid secretion, affecting the accuracy of gastroscopy examination. Therefore, smoking should be avoided before undergoing gastroscopy examination. It is also important to maintain a healthy state before undergoing gastroscopy examination to make the examination smoother.
